UPDATE ON BIZARRE BIZAAR, SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS

The sun was shining, but the gusty wind off the coastline sent an appropriate shiver through the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall at this New England seaport town, during its annual BIZARRE BAAZAR. The brisk 50 degree temperatures did not deter thousands of visitors who came to learn more about Witch City USAon Oct. 13, 14, 2007.

Fortuitously, my booth located at Derby Square, was right in front of the Town Hall where four times a day huge crowds gathered to hear the live drama of the infamous 1692 witch trial of Bridget Bishop, “Cry of Innocence.” As a result of the popularity of the drama, I met visitors at my booth from as far as Milan, Italy and Austin, Texas. Some shared their own forms of superstitions when discussing Touching the Dead with me. Others, asked me to speculate whether Bridget Bishop – a character in Salem Pact and the first person to be hung as a witch in 1692, was really in fact a witch. While their children sampled candy from a special witch mouth jar, the adults traded their own supernatural experiences. Some even asked if I did after-life readings! (I DON’T!) Some of those who bought the books were from Iowa, Rhode Island, New York and Minnesota – all up for this Haunted Happenings Event.

SPECIAL NEWS: An assistant manager (Janine Gallico) of the SALEM WITCH MUSEUM purchased SALEM PACT and is reviewing it to stock in the museum to be used in conjunction with their program!

Our night-shift hotel concierge also gave me a radio contact to pursue for additional publicity. COASTTOCOASTAM.COM

PICTURE CUTLINES:

Author Carlotta G. Holton (left) talks with a fan (at right) from Des Moines, Iowa after purchasing both of her books, Touching the Dead and Salem Pact, at her booth at the Bizarre Bazaar, Salem, Massachusetts on Oct. 13, 2007.

This scary witch didn’t have much to say as she guarded over the books and brochures at the booth.

The larger than life cutout witch and poster of Salem Pact, caught the eye of many a potential reader!
